Reflection

As a 57-year-old woman, changing to improve is not just a physical act, but also a profound process that involves the mind and emotions. Every small decision we make, from choosing a healthier food option to adopting a new routine, is an invitation to rediscover ourselves and explore our capabilities. This journey has shown me that lasting changes are not achieved overnight; they require patience, commitment, and, above all, a strong “why” that motivates us to keep going. Having a clear reason and personal purpose turns adjustments into permanent transformations. Goals may be challenging, but every small step toward a healthier lifestyle brings us closer to becoming our best selves.

Have you ever wondered how small changes in your routine could completely transform your well-being? That is exactly what I did seven months ago, and the results surprised me.

What Changes Did I Make?

  1. Low-Carb Diet
  2. Intermittent Fasting

What Do I Eat?

I consume large amounts of protein: mainly meat, chicken, pork, eggs, and Greek yogurt. I pair these with vegetables, especially greens like broccoli, bell peppers, spinach, asparagus, as well as zucchini, green beans, and different types of chili peppers.

Carbohydrates? Yes, I include some carbohydrates in my diet. For example, I pair my yogurt with berries, flaxseed, chia, nuts, and a bit of 70% dark chocolate.

How Do I Fast? My last meal is at 1:30 pm, and my next meal is at 6:00 am, resulting in a fast of approximately 16 hours. I follow this routine from Monday to Friday, while on weekends, I break the fast and allow myself more flexibility.

Are There Any “Sins” in My Routine? Yes, I enjoy a glass of red wine three times a week, which amounts to one bottle per week. And, I must admit that I do not practice meditation or other activities to manage stress, nor do I do weight training, which I consider essential at this stage of my life.

Results

  • I have maintained a very healthy weight for these seven months.
  • I generally feel better, with fewer gastrointestinal issues.
  • I feel more comfortable with my body.
  • I have learned to prepare delicious and nutritious meals without relying on processed or ultra-processed foods.
  • I don't have o rarely have cravings, either sweet or savory

Questions and Challenges

Although my triglycerides are at excellent levels, I have noticed that my cholesterol has increased. I am investigating the possible causes and its relationship to my diet. I just began reading The Cholesterol Code by Dave Feldman.

Conclusion

I will continue with the Low-Carb diet and intermittent fasting. My goal is to keep learning, adjusting, and improving my lifestyle to maximize its benefits and stay healthy.

This is not just a diet or a passing trend; it is a profound and conscious shift toward a healthier and more sustainable way of life.
